Voices From Red River

Voices From Red River explores the economic, social, political, and governance conditions that shaped the formation of the Red River Settlement from 1810 to 1870. Historical fiction letters written from the perspectives of both Métis and settler inhabitants, highlight the complexities of the relationships and the environment that shaped lives and livelihoods in the Red River Settlement.

Land Acknowledgement

This digital exhibit was created on the traditional territories of the Lekwegun peoples, now known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. I am grateful to live, learn, and create on these lands while studying at the University of Victoria. I also acknowledge the ancestral territories of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, and Nehethowuk Nations where the Red River Settlement was established, and the homeland of the Red River Métis.
